The suitability of the term ‘Reconquista’ (Reconquest) represents an urgent problem in Spanish society due to its questioned political use, its potential ideological charge, its ambiguous official definition and its potential oversimplification. From the innovative methodology of dialogical analysis, four novel theses on the term ‘Reconquista’ are constructed to better understand this phenomenon: ‘Reconquista’ as an operational term, ‘Reconquista’ as an ideology, ‘Reconquista’ as a non-scientific term, and ‘Reconquista’ as a non-representative term. We conclude by critically analyzing and confronting these four discursive lines to extract an answer to the initial problem.
