Reduction of Perchlorate Ion Concentrations in Martian Soil using Azospira oryzae

Reduction of Perchlorate Ion Concentrations in Martian Soil using Azospira oryzae

The colonization of Mars is being considered more and more as the human population continues to grow. For people to start living on Mars it is necessary to grow food as independent of planet Earth as possible, local resources, including soil, must be used. However, perchlorates are widely distributed in Martian soil and high concentrations of them are harmful to both plants and humans. The aim of my research is to use A. oryzae bacteria for perchlorate reduction and better plant growth in Martian soil. With this research, I want to start biological remediation, organic compounds cycle and oxygen production in the planet Mars.
