SPIDER-BACH2 combines health and environment, based on the simultaneous production of recombinant spider web silk, together with a bioactive peptide with bone tissue regenerative properties, and of green hydrogen from a marine bacterium, Rhodovulum sulfidophilum, capable of performing metabolic activity under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. SPIDER-BACH2 contributes to the mitigation of a global health problem resulting from the increasing longevity of the human population, osteoporosis, through the in vitro production of osteoblasts, integrating in its production cycle the aspect of circularity and environmental sustainability, through the production of green hydrogen as a by-product of the bacteria used for the study.
