Bee Api & Face

Bee Api & Face

Do bees recognize their beekeeper by facial identification? By exploiting the floral constancy and insatiability of bees, we are subjecting foragers to reinforcement learning: we are conditioning them to recognise a beekeeper by associating a reward solely with a photo of his face. The experiment consists of varying the faces proposed and recording their performance in finding the sugar water. We took account of the bees’ ability to discriminate shapes and colours, and developed specific device and a data entry programme in Python. Bee’s behaviour and performance, allow us to conclud that the foragers are capable, under the experimental conditions, of discriminating between the faces of beekeepers after a large number of trials. A large number of bees need to be tested again.
